I have a copy of Office XP and as it was installing it says:
Win requires newer Win components not detected. They are: Core System & Data Access.

I clicked Ignore and proceeded to install. Kept running into messages related to Win98Se.

Thought I installed it, but didn't.
What core system are they talking about? I'm running Win98; will XP run with Win98SE?

Next question, I'm trying to install Office 2000 and get this message: Setup not responding -- cannot find the instmsi.exe file.

Having all types of problems getting suites re-installed after a virus attack.

    Sal_gal,
Let Office XP install the core components etc from the setup disk. These are system updates to allow the integration of Office XP. As you found out, without them it won't install. All Windows version prior to XP require these updates before the application will install.
If you are reinstalling, you should uninstall the previous install first.
Update your virus DAT file to the latest, and any othere updates for the virus scanner engine and do a full scan of your hard drive before reinstalling these apps if you suspect a virus has caused the problem(s).

I don't have WinXP, just ordered it

Will be here at the end of the week.

But here's my dilemma: I'm in school & need either Offc 2000/XP for work, home, school, and right now neither will install.

I get an error message w/Offc2000: setup not responding, cannot launch D:\instmsi.exe, went to the site, downloaded and clicked to install. Offc2000 still not installing.
The CD spins and stops at the "installing MS Offc" screen.
I can't even download updates until I get installed.

Ditto XP. Clicked CDROM/Open, the instmsi.exe files are there.

I'm researching Star Office. No one should be this dependable on one program, one company for their productivity, so I'm looking at competitors suites. F*** MS.
