Hi peeps. My GF in her infinite wisdom installed the Office trial on my pooter. Now I cannot remove the **** thing even with my virtual crowbar. I deleted what I thought was the offending directory and rootled out some registry keys, but now whenever I start something vaguely Microsofty - such as IE - it pops up some installer. Problem there is the process jams when the file STD11N.STI is reported as missing. Googling just fills me with fear as it is claimed that this file does not even exist...

    Would appreciate any ideas.

diamondgeezer - Welcome to the Board :)

Under normal circumstances - i.e where beta software is not involved, a possible solution is to run the WIndows Installer Cleanup Utility - I would give it a try anyway.

    Assuming Office 2003 trial.

    Taken from http://www.microsoft.com/australia/office/products/pctrial/faq.aspx?tabs=2.5

There's a good chance it won't work, since you deleted the program directory... not to clever :(

    I'd suggest:

    1. Try reinstalling the trial & then use the proper method to remove it.

    2. If that's no option or still doesn't work, use System Restore to restore your system to a restore point prior to the installation of the trial.

Would be helpful to know if we are talking of the Office 2003 trial as Arie posts or Office 2007 Beta - which I assumed.

2003 is the puppy. Thanks for the input, guess I'll try the long way round and reinstall the demo.

    Cheers peeps.
