    Troops:

    I installed Streets and Trips 2005 on a PC and a Toshiba laptop successfully. When I use the same disks to install it on a second Toshiba laptop I get the follwoing error message:

    "Setup has detected that the Office Pack installation did not complete successfully. Would you like to repair your install? "

    Clicking on yes brings up the message "Please insert your installation media or restore network connection and select OK to continue. "

    I get the following message
    Unable to locate D:\FILES\OSP\1033\OSP.MSI
    despite having in the D drive the Streets and Trips 2005 Setup disk or the Run disk. Putting in the MS WINDOWS98 disk or the OFFICE 97 disk is also no help.

    Anybody got ideas as to what the error message is trying to tell me?

    David

    The cd or the drive could be dirty.

    Your suggestionon how to handle the Office Pack installation problem was almost right on. However instead of copying the ODI folders to my hard drive to be executed I executed them right on the installation disk. This updated WINDOWS98. I then executed the setup on the installation disk and the entire installation proceeded just fine.

    Thanks for getting me off dead center. Your advice pointed me in the right direction. Interestingly the MS Customer Service did not give me such valid advice.

    Your welcome David. I don't know why any of the suggestions were not given you to you by ms support. They all appear to be pretty standard, secondary steps to take when installing software that is being fussy, ie;

    *Clean cd.
    *Copy floppy or cd to to harddrive (in a folder "name of choice ") and install from there.
    *Try a clean boot install (background running tasks can interfer/conflict with installs). Most just make sure to endtask on any un-needed things open or running at the time, particularly and virus program.
    *If this is a two or more component install, (such as is the case with programs such as MSOffice), try installing the components separately.
    *look for known problems, patches or updates.

    Curious, since this is one of their own articles. In any case, I'm glad this problem is behind you and thanks for the sharing the final outcome. :)
