    Hey,
Okay im trying to get a small network of 7 computers working.
1: The office computer is XP Home, and has a Internet connection that all the other computers will be sharing.

2: The other computers are all Win 98se.

Okay i ran the "Network Wizard" on the XP home computer, and created the "Network Setup Disk ". Told it that the XP home has the internet and the other computers will connect to that one.

I then run the disk on the 98se computers, and it runs fine.
But after the computer has rebooted and i go to "Network Neighboorhood" i can see the other 98se computers but not the XP home one. I can ping the 98se computers from one to anouther, but the XP computer dosent get pinged and it cant ping the 98se computers.
All the IP addresses are different, but still the 98se computers can see each other. They all start with 169.254. but the last 2 set of numbers are different.
All the 98se computers are called eg:LENH1 to LENH7, the logon names are the same as the computer names, the workgroups are all the same...

Okay i think thats all the is to know...
    Am i missing something??

    Regards
    Redghan

XP HOME IS NOT INTENDED FOR BUSINESS! DID YOU KNOW THAT?

It is crippled/neutered in several areas especially in the networking area.

ICS is not a good way to go, get a router! They are not expensive nor hard to install.

    That said!

    It is your headache!

So in answer to your question!

ICS uses the IP of 192.168.0.1 so this is the IP of the XP!

    So!

    1. Assign a static Ip to each of the other computers. Begin with 192.168.0.2

    2. Make sure the workgroup matches on all including the XP.

    3. Create a user on the XP for each of the win98 computers as LENH1, LENH2 etc and give it a password, do this for all the win98 computers.

Or you can create 1 username/password and use it on all computers. Also the password can be the same on all!

Or you could even log each of the 98 machines in with the exact same username/password that you use on the XP.

After they are created on the XP, log off and back onto the XP as each of these users to confirm the username password works. Then back on with your normal logon.

    4. Log off each win98 machine then log back on with the exact username/password you created on the XP!

If you have everything else correct and do this correctly you should have your connections.
