Office 2010 needs to be reactivated?

Now that I have updated everything, it appears there is something I missed. I now get a message telling me I need to activate my Office 2010 that has been working for a couple of years now. When I try to activate, I get a message that my product key is incorrect. What is this all about?

I seem to recollect that this is the problem.

 

Thanks for the tip. I went to that URL and am still confused. The irony is that this has not affected the operation. Word still works with the message "Activation failed" in red at the top of the ribbon. Excel has not been affected at all.

 

Does it give you a toll free number to call? If so Call it and explain what happened. Have had this happen before and they fixed it right up. It was a number to MS

 

Steve, by "updated everything" I mean the Windows updates. They also update security in MS Office.

Well, unfortunately, there is no toll free number listed when I tried the activation again. Like I said before, everything seems to be working. I just get the red bar message at the top of the ribbon.

Well, I tried the 800 number and all I got was bell signals that sounded like a 1980s modem.

 

Thanks. I called them and the representative said that I had exceeded the number of activations included in my Office purchase. I explained that I had purchased a new desktop and merely wished to transfer the activation. After a time of misunderstandings due to a language barrier, the representative said I needed to email the Product Key number and my phone number to makadd@microsoft.com. This I did and I very quickly received an extensive email basically stating that I would be called between 8AM and 5PM PST and stating I would need all the information I included in my email to them.

I will update this info as things occur.

The irony is that the "activation failed" message only occurs when starting Word (not Excel or any of the others apps). And, if I click on cancel in the Activation wizard, I can still use the program as usual. If I open a new additional document, the red bar does not appear.

This has been some fun experience.

 

Still waiting to hear y phone from Microsoft. But, I did receive this mysterious message today. Odd since I have the original disc and packaging.

Thank you for your email. Upon research with the key ending in WGQ4B, I can confirm that this key is a Volume License key and is on blocked status due to piracy. Please note that we are unable to unblock a key; however, only the administrator of the Volume License agreement has the authority to request to block a key in case they feel like the key has been compromised. Once the key has been blocked, Microsoft will send a replacement key to the administrator of the Volume License agreement and will also populate in the VLSC website. You may want to reach out to the administrator to obtain the replacement key for this product.

Where did you get the copy of office from. Sounds like it is a illegal/pirated copy of Office.

 

I have had it for so long I can't recall where I purchased it. There hasn't been an issue of any kind for years. I merely deleted it from another desktop to install it on this one. The problem never occurred until the most recent update to Windows 10.

As I mentioned earlier, I am still waiting for the phone call they said I would receive.

 

I truly appreciate the replies here. I hope this experience will help others. But, it is a bit confusing.

 

OK, let's go back bit. I have this installed on three (3) computers, 2 laptops and one desktop. This started happening ONLY on the desktop after the upgrade to Windows 10 version 1809. It has not occurred on the laptops. The red bar appears only at the startup of Word on the desktop. If I open a second document in Word, it does not appear. It does not appear when I open Excel. Doesn't thaat appear to be odd to anyone?

 

If there is no consumer version that allows this, why was I able to activate and use it on three PCs for about three years?
