I was browsing at my local Staples store and found prerequisites for the upgrade version of office 2007. It included IIRC a couple versions of MS Works. Does anyone know the ins and outs of this UPGRADE process?

    Thanks, In advance,
    Michael

Unless there is a specific feature within Office 2007 that you need, or REALLY want, I would NOT reccommend it.

First of all, if your not running Vista, that might indicate a system reason why you're not running it, and if so, you should probably hold off on Office 2007 as well.

However, EVEN you're ok from a system standpoint, I can tell you from first hand experience and observation of many other cases, where Office 2007 is VERY VERY DIFFERENT.
In case I wasn't clear about that, I mean VERY DIFFERENT.

Without even knowing what application(s) you use most, it does not matter. It ALL IS VERY VERY DIFFERENT.

Particularly in the case of Excel and Access. HUGELY DIFFERENT.
Some may argue, "yes different, but also better ".
Well, "better" is in the eye of the beholder.
So as I mentioned, unless there is an Office 2007 feature that you REALLY REALLY NEED, be prepared for substantial impacts.
Charting is TOTALLY DIFFERENT now. Word and Power Point are also effected by this.
ALL WEB PUBLISHED EXCEL CONTENT has to be changed.
Kiss the beloved menus good bye. We now have the "Ribbon ".
Office 2007 has also moved entirely towards the new XML file format.
The list goes on and on.

Again, some of this may be better, but A LOT OF IT IS BUGGY.
Already this week I have submitted 1 Official Bug for regressive performance in Access.

So, you either need to have:
    An adventurous spirit,
    A lot of patience,
    An over riding need,
Or a lot of time on your hands,
or a combination of the above in order to justify not waiting for the Service Pack Edition(s).

    Thank you bilbo,
I do not have any specific needs to move on to office 2007.
A couple of years ago my brother bought two copies of office 2003 online for our bodyshop office computers. One of them has failed the MGA validation test.
So I need to purchase a valid copy of Office and I just figured that the latest and greatest would be a logical choice.
As I was looking for the prerequisites I found MS works version 6 thru 10 listed. I do have a copy of MS Works 8.5 that I can install on this computer for the upgrade requirements.

I do however have an adventurous spirit!!
Just not enough time for bugginess.
I guess I will go back and check on valid and legal copies of office 2003

Thank you again for your input.
