I downloaded a sample invoice from Microsoft's website, the problem now is the original invoice I created was on March 5, 2010 and each time I attempt to save or print the invoice with March 5th's date, the invoice defaults to the present days date. Any assistance is appreciated. Thank you.

Hi brimis, When you open MS Word 2003 > Insert > Date & Time - is the Update Automatically Checked?
I don't have any check in mine and wondered whether this might be your problem. Cheers Neil.

Another way to "lock" the date field is to place the cursor in the field and press Ctrl+F11. Then save the document. To unlock the field, place the cursor in the field and press Ctrl+Shift+F11. Then save.

If the document (sample invoice) is a Template (.dot) file and you want the locked field to be on all subsequent documents make sure you save it as a .dot file in the appropriate template location. Other wise just lock the field on each document you create from the template and leave the template date field alone.
