I have an installation of Office 2003 on a Windows XP computer. The Windows Update Facility has downloaded and keeps prompting to install Office 2003 Service Pack 3. Whenever I go to install it, it fails and then starts prompting to re-install again.

I am quite happy just to leave it uninstalled as I use Office sparingly, if at all on this computer but how can I get rid of the perpetual prompt to install. Additionally, it wants to install whenever I shut down.

You can probably manualy go to the update site and then select the option to hide updates to get it to stop.

Did you install all previous updates for Office2003 before trying to install Sp3? Some are required before Sp3 can install.

Yes. It was previously updated. In any event, it is on auto update so that should be done automatically.
