Office 2003 KB907417 update failure

Windows Securrity Update kb907417 for Office 2003 failed on my Vista system. Microsoft Support took control over my PC remotely and fixed it but I don't know exactly what they did.

Anyway, I just switched to Windows 7, re-installed Office 2003 and the update failed again. I tried downloading it directly and updating but that failed too.

Anyway, on another forum someone said they opened Outlook, selected Help, then the Repair option. That sets Office back to a default setting.

I hadn't previously installed Outlook, but I just installed it and went through the steps as suggested. BINGO. Windows Update then installed KB907417 and KB974771 (which had also previously failed) cleanly!
