    The setup:
We have an intranet set up that people can access from their web browsers. On it are files hosted on a different drive than the intranet. When one of our users clicks on a spreadsheet link to one of these files, excel will open, but it only opens excel. Not the document, not a new, blank document, either.

This workstation is running IE7 (it currently can not be upgraded to IE8 yet), and Office 07 Standard.

We've tried closing all sessions of excel and IE, and attempting to open the file again. We've also tried logging the user off the network, and then back on. We keep reproducing the same results of just an empty excel.

It does not appear that the file linked to on the intranet is being used by anyone else on the network when our user tried to access it and failed. There is no error message being generated to indicate their is a problem.

Where is my next step to look for troubleshooting this kind of issue?

Does the user have permission or is part of a group that has permission to access the other drive where the file lives?

The document is on a shared network drive that all users have permission to view and to access/edit.

And all users except one can open the file?

Correct. I've had other users attempt to open the file, and they have successfully. Multiple times.

It just seems to be this one user who just opens excel without any documents in it.

Copy the file to a flash drive and then to his dekstop to see what happens. If it works, I'd still guess its a permissions issue. If it doesn't work from his desktop it'd probably be a local excel issue.
