Windows XP and Microsoft works suite 2003

I have a new Sony Vaio which was loaded with Works/Works Word processor. I cannot access spell check in OE. I was told I should purchase Microsoft Office in order to have spell check in OE. I had MS Works suite 2003 in my old computer which included MS word 2002, however I was told it is not compatible with XP.

I would appreciate any information about using this software or and suggestions.

    Thank you.

MS Word from Office is what gives me my spell checker in OE. Is it possible just to install Word? You might want to try searching for an email spell checker on the net, too.

Doesn't Works have a spell checker in it already? You'd thing they would give you the email add on, since the info is already there.

Various freeware spell checkers can be found via one of these links:

As far as being told that MSWorks Suite, ala MSWord2002, was not compatible with XP, this is news to me. I did a google search, just to make sure, and all the specs advertisement, I read, says it is!

The only thing I can think of, is that your package may be OEM specific, meaning it came as part of a software package meant only for the computer [make/brand] that came with it. While there may be ways around this you'd need a little knowledge on the How-to's. Or perhaps the advice was given by someone who found it difficult to have WordPerfect and MSword on the computer. Got to say, I have both and have not had a problem but I rarely even open WordPerfect as I prefer MSWord.

As Johanna suggested, "nothing ventured, nothing gained ". You could just try to install the MSWord Component of the suites package. You don't have to install the whole suite. Just do a custom install and pick and choose.

However if your used to working with WordPerfect there is no need, just pick up one of those handy dandy freeware spellcheckers.

Thank you for the response to my question. I decided to try installing the Works Suite 2003 word, and I will let you know how it turns out.

joannan --As has been said, a spell checker for OE is not part of OE, but rather an add-on if you also have Word.
You can, however, install the Word spell checker in OE (without installing Word or Works) by following the suggestions here
