    Dear Board,

I could really do with some help regarding a problem I have with OE. I run Windows 98 and OE5.

Last week I performed a full recovery of my machine (HP pav 8690) as it was slow and had various problems after I got a klez virus. I saved what I thought I needed to cd's including my OE folders ( C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Identities\{F72DF920-98EE-11D3-8D9F-FDC781549A39}\Microsoft\Outlook Express).

I have now a fairly bare set of folders in OE, but 170Mb of messages in folders saved to disk (as .dbx files - I think they were initailly saved as .log files, but when prompted as to which program I would like to open these files with - I chose OE which automatically changed all the files to .dbx). When I left click on the saved Inbox folder on disk, it indicates 39Mb, but when I double click it all that happens is that OE opens with the current few folders and messages. I have renamed the old inbox (on disk) to "Inbox2" and copied it to C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Identities\{F72DF920-98EE-11D3-8D9F-FDC781549A39}\Microsoft\Outlook Express but it does not appear when I open OE.

I have changed the extension of one of the smaller saved files to .doc in order to see what it looks like in wordpad. The text is still there but obviously the pictures are in reams of code which made for quite a big wordpad file - and this is only a 500Kb file as opposed to Inbox (39Mb) and Sent Items (82Mb) which would not be "wordpadable" (for want of better jargon). The script on the small file I opened in wordpad said "this message is in MIME format" or something to that effect.

I saved my WAB too and when I click on that all I get is a blank address book.

Any help is greatly appreciated - I am a computer dunce, so please make any answers painfully simple!

    Many thanks!

This'll help. If, after reading, you have any specific questions then please post back.

BTW - welcome to the boards :)

A big "thank you" is in order Brett! - I'm sorted. You'd think they'd make it easier though wouldn't you?

    Thanks again Amigo!

Glad that it helped :) and, yes, it's not unfortunately a particularly straightforward process.
