In the last week whenever someone sends me an email with a picture attached when I open the email instead of the "Attachment" field with the pictures listed there I get the following message at the top "OE removed access to the following unsafe attachments ". It now does that on every single email I have in Outlook Express that have pictures - even the ones that worked before. The only way I can save the pictures now to my harddrive is to go to each individual picture within the body of the email , right click on it and then save it that way. I can receive spreadsheets, files, folders , anything and can save them the regular way. This has just started to happen within the last week or so - I have installed nothing on my computer save for the XP updates that come regularily and have not changed any of my settings. I am using Windows XP Home 5.1, Outlook Express 6.0.2900.2180, McAfee Virus Scan 8.0. Thanks in advance for your help on this one.

I assume that You have installed SP2. In Outlook Express go to Tools > Options > Security and uncheck the box for "blocking pictures ".

do you mean the box that says "block images and other external content in HTML email " cause that box is unchecked and always has been. Is there something else causing this ? I can't even look at old emails with pictures that were perfectly find 2 weeks ago.

Yes, that item is a new one which came with SP2 and people seem to miss it when they suddenly can't view pictures in emails.

Not in Your case, though. What about the check box above it, the one about attached files? Is that one checked or unchecked?

If it is unchecked, then I'm out of suggestions.

In OE Tools|Options|Send tab|HTML Settings there is a box for "Send pictures ". Make sure it is checked|Apply|OK. I know this says it is for sending pictures, but it also affects the receipt of pictures.
On the Security tab there is a box right above the one you two have discussed "Block Images and other external content..." . Is that checked? And finally what the box just above the latter "Do not allow Attachments to be saved or opened... "? Is that checked?

Thanks so much - problem solved ! The box that says " Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus" needs to be unchecked. I know that I have never had this problem before (up until about 2 weeks ago) so those new "checks" must have occured when I downloaded an upgrade do you think ? I know I never went in there and checked them manually. Could a McAfee upgrade do that ?

Cone--thanks for posting back. Glad to hear a suggestion helped. (Sorry my post was so poorly worded.)
But cannot tell you what caused the change. Sometimes Windows just makes changes.
