Greetings from Corpus Christi where the spring breakers are flocking to the beaches and the traffic on Padre Island is crazy.

Having a problem with Outlook Express 6. If I got to a file and try to send the file to a "Mail Reciepient" by right clicking the file and selecting "Send." I get an error message that reads:

The host 'smtp-server.stx.rr.com' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'Jim78418', Server: 'smtp-server.stx.rr.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11004, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

I connect to the internet via cable so I have an "always on" connection. Once I clear the error message I can maximize OE and click on "Send/Receive" and the message will be promptly sent.

 I don't see why I get this error message EVERY time I try to send a file like this. It would seem to me that if OE6 can't find the Account and/or Server when I click send by creating the mail via the right click method described above it shouldn't be able to find it when I click "Send/Receive. "

Obviously not a priority 1 problem but if someone has an idea about the problem I sure would appreciate your input.

    Thanks,

It may be that your ISP requires you to check mail; i.e., log onto the account with the correct password, before it will let you send mail. I have two accounts like that. Even sending through OE, if it's been more than 5 minutes since I last checked mail on either of those accounts, it won't let me send through them until I check (thereby logging in with the password) again.

I'm guessing, assuming you have OE set up to check mail when it's started up, sending from OE isn't a problem. Using the Send To option, however, isn't jumping through the hoops in the exact manner your ISP's mail server requires. When you click "Send/Receive," OE usually does the receive part first...thereby satisfying the mail server's requirements for logging into the account before you can send through it.

Well that makes sense. I'll ask them.

    Thanks,
