Hi, for the last few weeks, when I try to send an e-mail using OE I get the following message:

An unknown error has occurred. Subject 'testing my email', Account: 'pop.freeserve.com', Server: 'smtp.freeserve.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0B

I've tried to follow some suggestions from this and other sources like compacting my dbx folders, wiping them out and reinstalling OE (I have an XP home edition disk). I'm still getting the same message. Sensing messages used to be easy and I don't know what i've done (or maybe my son though we log in as different users). Has anyone got any further ideas?

    Thanks, Lenny Field

lennyfield--Just a guess. In OE click Tools|Accounts|highlight the account (if not already highlighted)|Properties|Advanced tab. Are the two boxes "This server requires a secure connection" checked? If so, and you do not want this level of security, uncheck|Apply|OK.
