so, i already had a Yahoo! Mail account. somewhere between purchasing a new computer & AT&T's acquisition of Yahoo! i automaticallly received an AT&T mail account; however, it would seem that any messages sent to the .sbcglobal (i think) address are received in my regular Yahoo! mail account. (this is just background, btw)

Yahoo! mail alone could never be set up in OE, they either couldn't or wouldn't give the POP3 & stuff...now that it's AT&T Yahoo! Mail, it's possible to get the account into OE...so i did. i needed read receipts & Yahoo! doesn't offer them. i set the account up using all my newly acquired AT&T settings, since i was still unable to get POP3 info. for Yahoo! directly and it seemed the 2 were linked anyway. OE gave me duplicate messages right from the start.

i got tired of it and removed the account from OE (it was the ONLY account, too). here's the weird part...i set all this up from my home computer. ever since then, if my home computer's on, when i check my Yahoo! e-mail, everything in the Inbox appears 'read' already, as in not bold face. now, if my home computer is off (meaning i'm checking from work), things are fine...all is normal. but when i check my e-mail from home, or when i check it from work if the home computer's on, all the Inbox messages are already marked 'read'. not the Bulk folder, just the Inbox stuff.

first i tried AT&T...they have chat help, tried that, tried phone help, too. then i sent a request for help to Yahoo! about it, even labeled it as a security issue (because, after all, just OPENING certain e-mails can do damage...), but i haven't heard back (that was 4 wks. ago).

any ideas anyone? i don't think it's a HUGE problem, but i am a little wary of the security of it AND it's totally irritating.

    much obliged,
    abi

When you read an e-mail on the mail server then download it, it will show as it is open. It was opened on the mail server. Is one of the PC's marked to leave mail on the server?
