I thought I had fixed this but I guess not...my aunt's email account info keeps changing so that she can't receive or send and the browser gives a "server not found" error for any web page she tries to go to. The email account settings change from username/mail.server.com to username/mail.server.com/mail.com effectively blocking her mail program. It also changes the email account settings in Norton AV making it useless. I found 2 files on her desktop, "o.bat" and "o ", that had not been opened or run and I removed them but I suspect there is still a change in the registry that is creating the recurring problem. I'm ready to format and reinstall but would rather not if y'all have any more suggestions. She's running Win 95 and I can't download any programs, i.e. hijackthis, adaware, because the browser won't work. I have them on disk and can install them that way but can't update them on her system.

It may just be the name <--> address translator piece that is broken and prevents internet site access.

Try these two things on her machine and if you can reach this site from there, you can reach the others as well for at least long enough to update the cleaner programs.

    - locate a file named hosts (no extension) if it exists. Should be in Windows on her PC I think. Rename it to hosts.old.

    - Open a browser window and put in http://67.15.19.177 for the address. It should take you to this forum.

If that happens, you will need the IP addresses of the various sites you want to access from her PC. I suggest you download Sam Spade to your PC and look up the IP addresses. Probably easiest to put the name URL in the address box on a Sam Spade window and let it search around.

If none of this works, post back. There are a couple other things you can try but none quite as easy as reaching the site(s) by IP address so try that first.
