I have used Outlook Express for several years and have been happy with it.
A few weeks ago, an odd problem arose.
I run a very busy forum and am webmaster for several sites. Consequently I have, receive and send, thousands of photos. Most are jpg's or gif's.
Suddenly I discovered that my OE will not deliver to me, any photos with a . after the name.
ie. It won't deliver a photo saved by me or anyone else as "myphoto." but will deliver "myphoto" regardless of whether it was saved as a jpg etc.
I have sent photos with the . as part of the photo to others and they are delivered. However no photos sent to me by others or test photos I have sent to myself, are delivered.
I am unfortunately not aware of exactly when this started or what might have changed in my computer at the time.
I "tend" to think, it might have been when I installed McAfee, but cannot be sure. I've tinkered with McAfee but it doesn't seem to have changed anything.
I run IE7 (my OE problem started before I installed that)
    I have XP and DSL.
I would so appreciate any ideas on this problem please.
    Lizzie

ElizabethD - Welcome to the Board :)

    Do I understand correctly ....

Myphoto.jpg is OK, but myphoto..jpg is not?

If you think McAfee is a player in this turn off the email checking in the program and see what effect that has.

Hello Pete - and thank you for the welcome.
    Yes, you understand correctly.
I turned off my McAfee mail check and sent myself two messages from my another email account.
The one without the . was delivered, but the other not.
I should say that my email to OE is via Verizon, so I can also check emails directly from Verizon's web page.
Those with the extra . do not show up there either.

Well, it works OK for me - I sent myself a title..jpg as an attachment from another account and it came through just fine. I suspect an OE problem as I am running IE 7 too.

Best suggestion I can make is to reregister OE and its associated library files as outlined in An Outlook Express Basic Repair kit - take care with the syntax and do not miss out the spaces in the commands.

Won't do any harm and may even fix the problem :)

Followed directions from the page you sent.
Sadly the problem still remains. I am still able to send such photos to other account, but not receive. Any other thoughts Pete?
I should add, that on that repair page, I was not able to repair or save the following, under "Reregister Libraries "
    regsvr32 mshtml.dll

    I re-read your original post
Do you get the email to which the image is attached? OE can only receive what is sent from your ISP and I am beginning to think that is where the problem lies.

Morning Pete - although I know it's evening where you are.
No, nothing is delivered containing such a photo.

Thank you Pete. I appreciate it.
I tend to think, that it might have something to do with the
    regsvr32 mshtml.dll
which for some reason couldn't be found or fixed, when I did the "fix" yesterday.

I saw your comment re. being unable to register mshtml.dll, but I don't think it has any relevance to your OE problem ....
    from here.

I am unsure as to why it cannot be registered unless it is damaged.

However as OE and IE are closely linked and as it is a system file I suggest you run System File Checker which will replace it from the dllcache if it is damaged or corrupted.
