A few days ago, October 2016 Preview of Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 appeared among the optional updates. I have no idea why Microsoft are aggressive to the level of offering "previews "? For me, the ordinary important updates are "beta" enough! Users having set Windows Update to "install automatically" will get it unknowingly. I recommend my friends to not install this "preview" but wait for the update that will be released on the second tuesday in November.

Pete, You're correct ... ... the box next to it is not checked. I'll rephrase ... ;) ... I recommend my friends to not check that box!

I checked the options in WU and there is a setting to, translated from Swedish, "get optional updates the same way as important updates" or words to that meaning. I never tested that setting but I may have been half-right in my assumption.

The exact wording is 'Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates'. I checked my Win 7 box on which that option is checked and then looked at Optional updates - KB3192403, October 2016 Preview .... is there!
