I have a new Dell desktop XPS8910 with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX960 video card installed. There is also an Intel HD Graphics 530 card installed.

When I try to access my NVIDIA control panel, I get an error message: NVIDIA Display settings are not available. You are currently using a display attached to an NVIDIA GPU.

I have tried to uninstall the driver and reinstall it and have also updated the drivers. I am still getting the error message.

Also, I would like to have the NVIDIA card be the primary card and not sure how to make that happen either.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi IceWine. Use DDU to remove your NVidia drivers and then reinstall them from NVidia's website, Remove NVIDIA video drivers with DDU.

Also you have your monitor connected to the NVidia video card and not to the Intel integrated graphics adapter correct?

Drivers are absolutely up to date. Used NVIDIA website to make sure. My monitor is connected to the HDMI port on my tower. Is this perhaps the problem?

The articles/videos talk about manually switching between the cards when playing games, etc. I would like the NVIDIA card to be the default and also to be able to access the NVIDIA control panel.

Without seeing the back of your comp I'd say that's the problem. The nVidia is a separate card and the monitor must be connected to one of these ports:

Do you have the Dell Service Tag? I know if you want to use the NVIDIA card you might need to disable the integrated graphics. It's been a while since I've done this procedure. That is why I wrote might need to disable it. I don't know if this will help: Dell XPS 8910 Service Manual

I do have the service tag. I tried to disable the integrated graphics which, of course, resulted in a blank screen and no graphics at all - it did not default to the NVIDIA card. A reboot got the integrated graphics back up. The manual does not seem to address the issue, thanks, though.

The screen will be black when the integrated graphics is disabled IF IF the monitor is connected to its port. Verify that the monitor is connected to the nVidia port.

Wow, that is a pretty simple solution - I got a new monitor with my system and I guess when my husband set it up, he plugged the HDMI into the port labelled HDMI on the tower without even thinking. It should have been the first thing I checked. I feel kind of silly. Duh. Thanks to all for your help.

Glad you got it fixed. Sometimes it is the simple things that are overlooked. Quit blaming us men on doing things. :p We have enough to do to keep straight. :)

Thank God my wife doesn't read Forums
I've just had to go and get the DVD she borrowed from the Library playing for her. She put the DVD in the player and followed the instructions I had written for her, but forgot to press the PLAY button to start it!!!
Great to see you have the required skills and ability to set up these new-fangled electronic gadgets.;) My wife can generally manage to switch them on and off. She takes the vacuum cleaner apart to clean the filters and empty the dust out - then I get a call to come and put it all back together again. o_O
