I have an Asus Crosshair motherboard with Nvidia hardware and drivers. from time to time I am alerted by Nvidia to update the drivers. I have no difficulty updating the display drivers but I cannot update my ether net NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI (MCP55PXE) - SMBus Controller. I download the latest drivers but I cannot install them successfully and always have to revert back to the existing set.
The Ethernet drivers are packaged with the storage drivers and I am wondering if in practice one can only install them as part of a clean install and not as an upgrade.
I would like advice on this.

No errors because everything is working OK, it is just that Asus prompt me to update the drivers and i can't do it - except Display.

Double-check the "new" drivers are the correct ones. There are devices which appear to be the wrong ones, they have been installed, but apparently Windows can't run them.

I would highlight and uninstall all of network controllers and adapters. Windows should be able to select the correct ones when you reboot, otherwise, if the Add New Hardware wizard runs, select Cancel, then run the driver installer when you get to the desktop.

If the downloaded ones seem to be wrong (those disabled devices come back), use the drivers CD that came with the computer. Have all the drivers at hand, in case you lose connection to the internet.

You might find the updates are for those devices which appear to be the wrong ones.

Be careful about doing "automatic" driver updates. Something seems to have installed the wrong drivers.

PS You might need to uninstall the nForce (not GeForce) drivers/software in Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs before installing the new/original drivers again.
Look for what might have installed that "Bluetooth LAN ".
