Nvidia Geforce4 Ti 4600

I have recently installed this new card, since installing i have not attempted to play any games due to lack of time. today i tryed to play Need for speed underground, i got a error with no information. so i started to trouble shoot the problem, i have discorved that the display adapter is not displayed in the device manager, i`m thinking that this is the cause of my problems but i cant seem to get it to showup. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers(Fully upto date from nvidia) but this does not help at all.

I have now reinstalled my older Graphics card ( Geforce 4 440MX) and i still have the problem so now i know that the problem is not driver related.

 

what drivers are u useing??
and what os??

i have my 4600 on xp pro and the newest drivers that came with windows updates, or nividia's web site i cant rember. and i dont have problems, has your card ever worked b4 or was is doa?

 

yes i ahve the lastest drivers from nvidia's site. The card works enough to get an output i have been using the card for about a week with no problems and it did show up in device manager at first but not anymore.

 

so u think its something wrong physically with the card?

 

I have comfired that it is not a hardware fault, i have reinstalled the older card and i still have the same problem

 

In Win 98 I would run the Add New Hardware wizard. The driver installation program should have the drivers in the Windows\System folder, so I would direct it to look there for the drivers.

New and old drivers can clash (mixed new versions with old). nVidia drivers come(came?) with a "readme" about how to uninstall old drivers. You change the video in Display settings to a "standard vga "...boot into Safe Mode and remove the old drivers (check in Add/remove Programs as well as Device Manger). Then reboot and run the installation program for the new drivers (can be run in Safe Mode as well).

Well i have finally discovered the answer to my question with no thanks to you guys. The problem was steming from a missing dll, MSDART.DLL i think is was. but the problem is now solved.

Can you tell us how you found it? May be of benefit to others.

Well as i stated it could never have been a hardware error, seeing as how i had the same problem with 1 almost and 1 brand new graphics card, and like i said not drivers as i have the lastest from nvidia. so it most have been a software error. but anyway i found the error using norton utilities, and then i just simply downloaded the dll from the web and installed it into my system32 dir.
