I know I saw a place somewhere that stated how many system settings my XP home edition would keep. I believe it was a place where you could change that number without mucking in registry. I can't find it now. Can anyone put me out of my misery and tell me where this setting is. Maybe I was using a tool? Maybe I'm just losing my mind?

What type of settings are you wanting to change?

If you mean to increase the maximum number of folder views that XP can save, there is a registry edit that will allow you to determine that size. Since you want to avoid manual editing, I'll not include that.

There is also a .reg file that will do the editing for you and set the limit to 8000, which is generally plenty. Download it and double click on it. Allow the data to merge when asked.

Increase Folder View Size Limit To 8000

All thanks be to Kelly Theriot.

Another option is to install SP2 which increases the setting to 5000 from the 400 that is the previous default setting.

Thanks guys. I have SP2 installed. I didn't realize it changed the size to 5000.
    I think that's plenty.
