NTVDM.EXE errors

I do tech support and lately I've rec'd several calls from customers that they were getting an ntvdm errror: the error reads: TCI Credit Retriever: ntvdm.exe - Application error The instruction at "0x77f52cd0" referenced memory at "0x00a20553 ". The memory could not be written. Click ok to terminate the program.

We are seeing customers get these errors using our 16 bit app on 2000 and ME. However, we have lots of other customers using the 16 bit app on 2000 & ME who are not getting these errors. I'm trying to get suggestions on where to look to see what could be causing these errors.
