    Hi all,

I have this teething problem with my PC. I encountered this error when power on my pc in the morning. Hence, I tried to copied the three files, ntdetect.com , ntldr and boot.ini to a diskette and boot from there. It worked fine. So, I copied these files to my pc ( ie ' C;\ ' ) and restart without my diskette inserted in my 'A' drive. It came back with the same error. I ran Fixboot and fixmbr and but to no avail. Please advice. Thanks.

ericwi You have done the correct things to fix this type of problem and they have apparently failed. Do them all again, especially the FIXBOOT and FIXMBR command from the Recovery Console.

While in the RC, run the chkdsk command to verify that the drive is free from defects or errors. Run it without any switch to see what is reported. If it reports errors or damage, consider performing a backup image if you have critical files to recover. Once that is done, run chkdsk /f and allow it to "Fix" the drive errors or map out the damage.

Your HD may be damaged in the first sector and will not be usable for booting. Rule out a loose data cable before you give up on it though.

Even if the first sector has damage beyond repair, you can always floppy boot the drive and use it until times get better.

EDIT. Let's also rule out any BIOS corruption that may have occurred and put the HD off of the boot sequence list. Check that in the BIOS/CMOS Setup first.
