ntbackup.exe does not start with wizard - nor GUI!

    - My XP pro SP3 used to run ntbackup.exe alright (FWIW).

    - Now calling it just produces a windowless process that does nothing.

    - I read that the wizard can be disabled in configuration. I am sure I didn't do it.

    - I think I have the original link to the program, which calls it without any options.

    - Calling it in the run dialog without options does the same.

    - Calling it as an unprivileged user makes no difference (it should not start, right?)

    - Process Explorer lists the resulting process as a BATCH (!! default behavior?)

    QUESTIONS

Is there a switch in the call that forces the wizard?

Is there a configuration file I can look at to re-enable it?

    Thank you in eager anticipation!

Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services

See if Removable Storage service is running

If not, try to start it

If it won't run, go to C:\Windows\System32\NtmsData

Move all contents of that folder to a temporary folder

Try again to start Removable Storage service

If it starts OK, then run ntbackup.exe
