If at first you don't succeed....move on......

Mozilla Thunderbird 0.3, Great-so far. Now where did all the "bells and whistles" go? Spent quite a bit of time looking for the "total" column for each email folder. Another whole day trying to get the "file" button on my mail toolbar to actually FILE the emails into folders. The button does nothing when clicked on. (XP Pro o/s) Printing still problem only in Browser (Mozilla 1.6).

Will all these Bugs go away if I uninstall NS 7.x? What will the consequences be? Is it safe to remove the bugggy 7.x?

Happy Note: I've found XP pc's performances have decreased recently. Installed SpySweeper with great success. Great Application--so far.

    Hi Suzette,

Keep in mind that although Thunderbird is reported to be stable, it is a work in progress... You are a couple of versions behind, and might want to upgrade to
    Mozilla Thunderbird 0.5,
    thunderbird-0.5-win32.zip 09-Feb-2004 02:22 7.5M

Mozilla recommends that you do not install over an existing version.
Upgraders: DO NOT install Mozilla Thunderbird into a directory containing program files from a previous version. Overwriting files from a previous release WILL cause problems. To re-use the directory of a previous install, the directory must be deleted and recreated, emptied, moved, or renamed. You should not file bugs in Bugzilla if you choose to ignore this step.

I would suggest reading the Release Notes thoroughly before upgrading. There is a wealth of information there.
Release Notes - Mozilla Thunderbird 0.5
One has nothing to do with the other. Netscape 7, Mozilla Thunderbird and Mozilla 1.6, are three separate applications. Uninstalling Netscape 7.1 will have no effect on either of the Mozilla applications.

Two more excellent spyware applications, both Freeware:
    AdAware
    SpyBot

    Hi Suzette,

You're WAY out of date with Thunderbird. I'm using the 03-16-04 nightly version which, along with other recent versions, is rock solid. You have your choice of an installer version (which I haven't tried) or a zipped version, which unzips to a thunderbird folder. Give it a try ... I think you'll like it.

    back to the drawing board

    Hi Ramona and Jim!!

Well, after spending 4 days looking for an "improvement" to the email, and after testing and reading hour after hour, my decision is to move back to Netscape 7.x. The Mozilla Suite, Mozilla Thunderbird nor Firefox-Firebird will suffice. The number of "bugs" are enormous. I know my users will be very upset when they have to keep fixing problems in their email application. Good Lord if they loose any information, (i.e. addresses, bookmarks, emails!!). If, and/or when, Mozilla gets all these problems smoothed out, I will try again. But, until then, I will have to "move on" and actually get some work done.....;(

Thank you both for your input. It was worth the try to upgrade at this time.

Now onward to my next endeavor....;)

    Regrets,
    Suzette

    ooops.....p.s.

BTW - I found an application for backing up all Mozilla's data, you know the important stuff....email, addys, books. Installed it and even that crashed....;(

    BUT-it was an excellant idea!!
