    hi ramona!
this is my problem, hope to be concise enough:
i tried to move emails from a pc to the other (both have ns7 installed + the target pc had already a personal_profile/xxxxxxx.slt with its pertinent mails). that's how i proceeded, but i'm sure i screwd sth up: saved xxx.slt/mail/username to cd and copied it to target-disk; try to import mails from that folder, but had to rename <noext>-files + .msf-files to eudoras .toc + .mbx formats in order to have the ns importing facility work. then created a new account +and trasferred mails all in one account, so that i could have my old + new mails in the same folder. then changed the local folder path from ../mozilla/../mail/username to a more appropriate place (../mails/username) for backup-purposes. now i can read all emails but for most of them can't read the attachments, and i think this is true for all the mails imported from the other pc. ns7 says: This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

    Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit
is it because of the renaming action i performed? or because i didn't create a new profile? or had to copy the whole xxx.slt? what can i do now?
    maybe you need more infos...?
    thx for yr help!

    Welcome to the Forum, emma!

    Hi emma,
I know next to nothing about Eudora, but to copy Netscape mail from PC to PC, you should NOT copy the files with MSF extensions. The easy way to do this is with Netscape closed: open Windows Explorer, then copy the Mail files with NO extensions.

I'm not sure I understand why you changed the "Local Folder" location for your Mail, but I can tell you that it should point to the Mail folder, which is the subfolder of your salted folder. Mozilla\Profiles\username\*.slt\Mail\mailaccountname

As to why the attachments are inaccessible, eludes me. The attachments would be contained in the copied file. Your Inbox file with no MSF extension, should have all attachments included with the emails. Did you check file properties to see if any are "Read Only "? This would not apply to Windows XP, however. I just copied the Inbox file on my second PC, which contained several attachments. I renamed the file Inbox2. On the target PC, In Windows Explorer, I copied the Inbox2 to the Mozilla\Profiles\username\*.slt\Mail\mailaccountname folder. When I opened Netscape, Inbox2 contained the emails and the attachments contained therein.

If you had an existing Profile on the Target PC, then copying the Mail files with NO extensions should have been sufficient. As to the renaming for Eudora, I'm afraid I have no answer for you.

It might be in your best interest to create a new Profile, and start from scratch. You might take a look at some step by step guidelines for Copying Profiles from PC to PC. This, of course, has no references for Eudora.

    automatic replies

    hi ramona,
I followed your instructions step by step, but somehow NS could not view the messages, although they are in the right folder. oh well, I'll stop worrying about that and keep my unreadable attachments. my NT is pretty unstable and I don't want to "disturb" it too much!
Another question: is it possible to configure automatic replies from NS4.x? Something like an "I'm absent "-message?
    Thanx,
    Emma

    Hi emma,

Here is what Netscape has to say on Auto Respond to Messages to Messages:

There are some shareware programs that can filter, redirect, and auto-respond to messages. These programs work independently of your main email program, so you can use them with email programs other than Messenger.

Some shareware programs can be found at:

    http://www.shareware.com
    http://www.tucows.com

Please note, however, that in most cases, auto-forwarding and auto-replies are best done at the mail server rather than the mail client. The reason is that implementing these features at the client end requires you to keep your PC running all the time with your POP password typed in, which could be considered a security risk.
    ---

I would check first with your ISP to see if this is doable.
