    Hi All

I'm a bit slow these days and tho' I know where I'm `at', I'm not sure where I've `been'. I ask your forebearance.

On Sept 17 last, I DL'd a file named NS7SETUPCOMPACT.EXE. It was 13,425 KB. Now I don't recall where I got it but there were three files I think: full install, compact and bare bones of about 10,000KB.

Now having read Ramona's detailed `custom install NS 7.x' and some of the other posts, I'm wondering if this is the install for me or should I scrap it and DL the full version and follow Ramona's custom instructions.

There is one item I'd probably want but I don't know it's content: CANADIAN REGION PACK. Does anybody know if this `pack' remains in the `compact' install that I earlier DL'd? Does anybody know what's in the `pack'?

I currently have 4.79 installed. Must I back up any of it's files before installing 7.x OR should I save my BOOKMARKS/USERS FOLDER and simply clean out 4.79? Later periodically crashes [even tho' my hard drive has been reformatted with everything including NS 4.79 reinstalled*.].

[*system kept seizing but seems to have been corrected - well mostly - by removal of MS Word Viewer and Logitech's keyboard software].

    Will appreciate some additional guidance.

    Hi Welt,

LOL! I hear you Welt, happens to a lot of us around here.

O.K., your Compact Version came from Holger Metzger's site. Here is the download page, which lists the tweaks for Netscape 7.0: http://www.hmetzger.de/net7comp.html

There is an updated Version, 10/4/02, which irons out a few bugs in his 10/2/02 Version. Holger only has one Version, on his site, being the "Compact ".

The SillyDog701 site has the two Streamline Versions, Stand Alone which is the 10 MB DL, and the Streamline with Mail which is the 12 MB DL. This may be what you were referring to, as the multiple Versions.

The Canadian Language pack is available in all Versions. It is configured through Edit|Preferences|Navigator|Languages.
You click on "Add" and select the Canadian language pack from the list.

I would keep 4.79 for a while. Always back up your Users folder before editing, or an install. It's a good preventive measure. Backing up two or three times/week is always a good idea.

Netscape 7.0 and Communicator 4.79 will reside quite happily with each other. I would use a unique Profile for 7.0, however.

Personally, I've used all Versions, and currently have the SillyDog701 Streamline with Mail, installed. It is definitely a personal choice, taking into consideration which components best fit your needs.

Please let us know if you have more questions.

    Ramona :D

    Thank you Ramona,

My brain occasionally needs to be scratched but my head gets in the way!

I do appreciate the overview. I will cogitate upon using your Streamlined version or getting a new copy of the `compact' version. I have little need for mail save for writing to a couple of news sites.

Re the latter, can I copy over my Users' folder from 4.79 to 7.x ? Oops, perhaps that's already been answered elsewhere. If so, please disregard. I especially don't want to lose my Corel WP 8 messages.

By the way, perhaps this is not the place, but I originally installed 4.79 [up from 4.74 I think] supposedly to solve a copy and paste problem with WP 8. It hasn't worked and neither have all the available patches. Do you suppose that 7.x might achieve this end? I have no copy/paste problem, at least not that I've detected, in Word Perfect as long as Netscape is not installed.

    Hi Welt,

The nicest thing happens, Welt. Your 4.79 Users information is automatically converted to 7.0. If for any reason something goes wrong, and this doesn't happen, it can always be done manually, and we can help you do that.

On your WordPerfect 8 Copy/Paste problem, I would have to do some research first. I've seen other users complaining about this problem. I'll get back to you on that.

    Hi Welt,
Wrong! The Language pack is not included in either the Compact nor the SillyDog701 Streamline.... however, there is an add on at Holger's site for that Canadian Region Pack, that you can install.

    Sorry 'bout that!

COPY AND PASTE IN WP 8

    Hi All

I know that this is a Netscape forum but I do want to close the door here re a sidebar issue I earlier introduced that had to do with a copy and paste problem that seemed to involved NS and that I had been told was Netscape based.

For benefit of all, here's the current status, copy of an email written privately:

    ***********

"Just ran a couple of tests. With a very fast `touch wood' [reach for the head], I attempted multiple copy and paste operations from a Wordpad document and from an online document opened in Netscape 4.79.

"Unlike pre-hard disk reformat, everything worked smoothly and as it should. Before my HD reformat, IE was royally messed up showing as Versions 5.0, 5.1 and 5.5 depending upon where I looked. I now have a clean install of IE 5.5.

"Nonetheless, I also previously found the problem to be intermittent so for now, the news is good but the jury remains out. "
