    Hi all,
Using NS 6.2.2, Win XP Pro.

I have downloaded the full install file fron Netscapes web site along with the install PDF as well.

From page 4 of this file under the heading of "Uninstalling earlier versions" I quote:

"If you?ve installed an earlier Netscape 6 version, you may want to uninstall the older software before installing Netscape 7.0. Usually this is unnecessary, but it can prevent any problems with previous versions from being inherited. "

From what I think I have read in this forum there can be problems with installing some problems with installing NS 7 over versions of NS 6. I therefore want to uninstall NS 6 before I install NS 7
I have backed up my bookmarks but I wish to also to back up my address book as well. I cannot find a method of doing this from within NS 6.
Any ideas from anybody would greatly appreciated.
    Cheers
    Graeme

    Hi Graeme,

It's a very good idea to uninstall Version 6 before installing Version 7.0. You might also take a look at these two pages:
"Clean Install for Netscape 6 and 7
    Patch for Reassociating JPEG Files
You may not need the patch, but just in case...

Your Address Book (abook.mab) is located in your *.slt folder, the same as your Bookmarks:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\xxxxxxxx.slt
NOTE: These files are hidden by default.

Why not just save the entire *.slt folder, then you don't have to worry about losing anything.

Let us know if you have any problems!

    Cheers!

    Ramona :D

    Hi Ramona.

    Hi Ramona,
    Just another quick question.
When I have installed NS 7, do I just copy that directory back into the appropriate NS 7 directory?
    Cheers
    Graeme

    Hi Ramona,
Did as you suggested with my .slt folder.
    Copied it to another drive.
    Uninstalled NS 6 through "add/remove programs ".
Deleted remaining original NS 6 directory.
Installed NS 7 and it managed to find all my mail folders, bookmarks and address book on the other drive.
I would consider that to be extremely painless and impressive.
All seems to be working except for auto mail download on start up.
Can't seem to find the setting for this in preferences.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers
    Graeme

    Hi Graeme,

Good going on your Netscape 7.0 install! Yes, it is wonderful when everything is copied with no problems!

    Your settings would be in:
Edit | Preferences | Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings | Server Settings

Keep in mind that you do have to leave the Mail window open in order to receive a Mail Notification.
