I have used NS 4.79 - Happily - for quite a while. Decided to load 7.02 because many sites don't load well with the *old* versions of NetScape :(.

    Download & SetUp went well...

My many hundreds of saved e-mails appear in the new 7.02 InBox... But here's the *rub* / problem / question ~

WHAT HAPPENED to all my previously saved (in 4.79) Mail Sub Folders??

Not to mention the Sent and Trash folders...

The "old" 4.79 had a neat DropDown Box where you could select any of your Mail Folders - Trash, Sent, AND my *missing* In and Sent Sub Folders...

These "other" Folders and Sub Folders are still ON the HD - I can see and read all of the Sub Folders + Trash if I use the "old" 4.79 version...

WHERE are these other mail folders *hidden* on or in 7.02?????

There *must* be a way (he said, Hopefully) to click on a Clicker Button and see / find them - but the *Help* (???) library only mentions them in passing - and gives NO clue how to access the sub folders.

PS: I *DID* do a mail search for the contents of one IN-mail sub folder (using 7.02 mail search)...
UP popped a nice listing of the sought-after e-mails - I could even read them
But they are NOT to be found and read without the help of a search.

Anyone care to offer some ideas?

    Many Thanks!

PS #2 ~ This is a GREAT BBS!

    Welcome to the Forum, Phred!

    Hi Phred,

Your subfolders are those folders ending with sbd. It seems that the File Conversion doesn't always convert these files from 4.7x to 7.0x.

To place them in your new 7.02 Mail:

    With Netscape closed:
    Copy from:
    C:\Program Files\Netscape\Users\yourusername\Mail
all folders ending with an sbd extension.

    Open:
    C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\yourusername\*.slt\Mail\mailaccountname
    (Depending on your OS)
Paste the sbd folders into this folder.

Let us know if you have further questions.

    Ramona :D

    Hi, Ramona~ ;)

    Thanks for the reply!
    Here's what Iv've found....

    LOTS of stuff in 7.02's "C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\yourusername\*.slt\
    Mail\mailaccountname "
    ...
    Including .sbd files!
Even found Files with the Correct Sub File Names - all modified on the date I loaded 7.02.

So - I *think* the sub files DID move to the new 7.02 mail system...

    *I* just can't find them!

Now I'm *positive* (???) the sub files moved...
Did another 7.02 Mail Search (Advanced) - and there is a drop down box that LISTS ALL my sub files! (Oh Happie Day!) :)
I played along with the "system "...
    1) Selected one of the missing sub files
    2) Gave it a search term (word)
    3) "Searched "
    4) Was given a long list of the "missing e-mails "
    5) SAW a box at the bottom of the search "Open Message Folder" (*Hidden*) until I highlighted one of the searched messages, then the Open Message Folder clicker became active...
    6) CLICKED on the "Open Message Folder "
    7) YeeHaw! GOT ALL the *missing* sub folder messages - all grouped together and readable.

    Sooooo....
The "Missing Sub Folders *did* convert or move from 4.79 to 7.02....

    So now the Question is:
Where the Heck is the *Clicker* button that lets you *select & open* a mail sub folder WITHOUT having to do an advanced search - involving a half-dozen clicks???

There *must* be a hidden clicker somewhere to open a drop down box to let you Select a sub folder to view...

PLEASE tell me I don't have to do an involved Mail Search just to see the contents of a mail sub folder!

    Thanks again for your ideas.

    Hi Phred,

    With Netscape closed:

Open Windows Explorer, and once again, navigate to your mail account name folder.

Are the sbd folders listed first?
Open each sbd folder, and delete the files with an msf extension. Do NOT delete the files without the msf extension.

Hopefully, this may cure what ails your sbd folders...

    Hi Phred,

It was pointed out to me that in my original post, I referred to sbd files. I am hoping that you realized that I was referring to the folders and not single files. If not, my apology...
I have edited my post, so as not to confuse anyone further.

    Hi (again) Ramona ~

Ref: "I referred to sbd files. I am hoping that you realized that I was referring to the folders and not single files. "

    No harm; No foul... :D
Well; First: I didn't "change" anything (yet)!
And Yes - I sorta figured it out...

    You previously said & asked:

    With Netscape closed:
Open Windows Explorer, and once again,
navigate to your mail account name folder.

Are the sbd folders listed first?

Open each sbd folder, and delete the files with an msf extension.
Do NOT delete the files without the msf extension.

    ? Are .SBD folders FIRST??
A = NO, not First in the Folder...
    There are five or six NAMES of sub folders with NO file extensions;
THEN the three .SBD "FOLDERS ".

Only one of the three .sbd Folders has a .MSF file in it (and I left it there).

After *sniffing* around - I'm certain the Sub Folders are alive and well in 7.02...
I Can Find (via the Mail Search routine) and read the e-mails that are stored in them...

Problem seems to be that I cannot find a Link, ClickBox, DropDown Box or any other *hint* on the main E-mail/Mailbox page of *HOW* to either Find or Select the particular Mail Sub Folders...

NS 4.79 has a white DropDown Box - upper Left corner, just below the "Get Mail" clicker, that allows me to SELECT the particular sub folder I want to get. Click the box arrow; and ALL the sub folders in Local Mail drop down... Received & Received subs, Drafts, Templates, Sent & Sent subs, and TRASH. *Click* a subfolder - and it opens with all the stored e-mails.

NS 7.02 HAS my sub folder e-mails stored - *somewhere* - because I CAN search and find them.

*ISN'T* there a way to "Open" these sub folders withOUT having to do a "search" to find the sub folders??

And "TRASH "... Isn't there a *temporary holding file* for "Trashed" mail?? When I delete an e-mail in 4.79 - it goes into the "Trash" folder - which I can review and either empty or return a wanted email back to any of the other mail folders.

Just seems to me that there is a Clicker Button *missing* on my 7.02 mail control panel!
Come to think of it - I don't think I've ever seen a "Sent" mail folder in 7.02... ???? It *does* keep a file copy of everything *sent*, doesn't it!?

And now to make matters worse...
    7.02 "ate" my Bookmarks...
That tale is told on a thread "Fenris" started about loosing his History and "new" Bookmarks...
See: "Navigator 7.0 Vanishing History "

I'll await your thoughts before I do any modifications...

    Hi Phred,

You have a mell of a hess! Yes, of course you should be able to open, for example, your Inbox and its subfolders without having to search.

Take a look at these Screen Shots that I put up for you, so that you could see what your Mail Account Folder should look like, and one of the sbd folders.

Now you have discovered you have no Trash or Sent folders? I think that you probably should create a new Profile, as I don't believe your conversion went very well.

Look at this guideline for Creating a New Profile I think this is what you will need to do in order to straighten out this mess. At least it is what I would do.

BTW, you can copy your bookmark.htm file from 4.7x, rename it bookmarks.html, then replace the existing Bookmark file in 7.01. Note the subtle differences in the name of the files.

    RAMONA!! ~ You da BEST!!!!

    I *thought* I otta be able to see/find them without 20 key-clicks!

There were right there - all along!
Dummie Me *smushed* their window down to nothing  to expand the main message window...

    Thanks for the *Screen Shots*!
They pointed me in the right direction -
Once I saw WHERE the sub folders were *supposed* to be...

Guess the moral of the Story is do NOT tinker with things till you KNOW what you're doing! I *should* have paid attention to what I was minimizing...

Now it's off to copy & rename the Bookmarks file and put that back where it belongs...

Any idea *why* the bookmarks vanished?
I wasn't (I don't *think*) trying to *do* anything with them when they took a hike last night... ??

Probably another word to the un-wize here - prolly otta do a Bookmark SAVE every week or so...

Do Address Books have a habit of walking off? THAT would be a disaster.

THANKS so much for your *EXCELLENT* Help!!!

    Hey Phred,

A lot to be said for "Show 'N Tell" yes? So glad you found everything, and it hadn't disappeared after all.

A frequent back up of your Profiles folder should become a habit.

I don't have a clue as to why the Bookmarks disappeared. It's more common to have the Address Book disappear. Just do frequent backups and you'll be O.K.
