I posted a message shortly before this one having what I thought were helper problems.

Well, I have another one, possibly related.

I have a web cam and an application with it that sends e-mail. I sent a test to myself (using NS 7.01 as the mail client to send and receive) and my wife who uses Outlook 2002.

She clicks on the file that gets sent, Windows Media player opens and shows the video.

In my case, Windows Media player opens and then produces the error that the file can't be found? UNC is ".\mailbox:\\\C|\Documents%20and%20Settings\
    Irv%20Spalten\Application%20Data\Mozilla\Profiles\ispalten\63sckk08.slt\mail\
    pop3.shawus-1.com\Inbox?number=83410502&part=1.2&type=video\
    x-ms-wmv&filename=MyVideo.wmv "

Any ideas why this wouldn't work? Is it a Win XP Pro problem? My wife runs XP Home...

    Hi Irv,

This isn't a Windows XP problem. This is a Netscape problem, and there are quite a few bugs listed on this particular one.

I will post back later with some information for you. I seem to recall a workaround, and have asked for help from the "PluginDoc ". As soon as I get a reply I will post the info. I do know that WMPlayer wouldn't work any of the Netscape 6 releases. I found several articles, but they are somewhat outdated, so am reluctant to post them.

Just wanted you to know that I'm on it!

    EDIT:
Have you enabled plugins in the Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings?
    Edit | Preferences | Advanced | Scripts & Plugins

Also, have you tried right clicking the file, "save link target as ", then playing the file?

    Hi Irv,

I am being told that WMPlayer should play an attached wmv file. If you have enabled Mail & NG Plugins, and have Java/JavaScript enabled, then your file should play.

Click on Help | About Plug-ins and look for this entry:

Windows Media Player Plug-in Dynamic Link Library
    File name: npdsplay.dll

If video/x-ms-wmv is listed, then you should have no problems.

Post back and let us know if this helped in any way.

    Yes. plug-in is there

OK, it says it is there :

Windows Media Player Plug-in Dynamic Link Library

    File name: npdsplay.dll
    Npdsplay dll

    Mime Type Description Suffixes Enabled
    application/asx Media Files * Yes
    video/x-ms-asf-plugin Media Files * Yes
    application/x-mplayer2 Media Files * Yes
    video/x-ms-asf Media Files (*.asf,*.asx) asf,asx,* Yes
video/x-ms-wm Media Files (*.wm) wm,* Yes
audio/x-ms-wma Media Files (*.wma) wma,* Yes
audio/x-ms-wax Media Files (*.wax) wax,* Yes
video/x-ms-wmv Media Files (*.wmv) wmv,* Yes
video/x-ms-wvx Media Files (*.wvx) wvx,* Yes

I expected that though, after all, WMP did start. It is either that it can't resolve the UNC, or for what ever reason, NS 7.01 is creating a bad UNC and passing it on with the call to WMP? Don't forget, the same message sent with Outlook my wife can resolve it? Also, WMP does open with INBOX as the file it wants to run, and that is where I clipped out the UNC from.

    Irv
