Anyone have a clue as to why I would get a "Program has performed an Illegal function" error when I close Nestscape 4.79. It will happen 2 times in a row, back to back. No trouble starting NS again. Not a major problem, more of a nuisance. Plug-In problem?

    System stats:
Dell PIII 500, 128Ram, 12 GB, Cable modem (ATTBI), SCSI Jaz, IDE Zip, USB Scanner, Serial port Drawing Tablet

Thanks in advance for your help

    Hi trags63,

Can you give us more information on the error. Is it in Module RPCRT4.DLL, or KERNEL32.DLL, etc. That will help in troubleshooting the error.

Were you using Newsgroups or Mail just prior to shutdown?

    Let us know,

    Ramona :D

If I remember correctly it's a Module RPCRT4.DLL error. Never happens once though. I get the error, click OK (only option given) then the error dialog box comes back. Click OK again and it's over. No other hangups.

Happens if I have just been to Newsgroups, E-Mail or just Web Surfing (equal opportunity error I guess).

    Hi trags63,

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm quite familiar with this error. First the RCPRT4.DLL error, and then an PR3240.dll error.

This is a problem which has existed since version 4.5. It has something to do with the revised Messenger window structure, as it usually occurs when the user closes windows in an 'unusual' sequence. For example, it seems to often occur if the last window closed (thus terminating Communicator) is a message window whose folder or newsgroup message list window is already closed. It'is doubtful that there will ever be a fix for it with Communicator receiving little attention now.

Best workaround is to try and remember to close Messenger completely, then close Navigator.

Thanks for the info Ramona. I'll give it a try. If I remember, it doesn't happen everytime I close out NS. It's probably the time I close navigator then the messenger window. Can't really recall. I'll get back to you and let you know.
