I have two computer reclaimed from a school disposing of them. Both have residual novel software (or parts thereof) on them. I am having trouble when I put in new modems etc. I think part of the problem is the novel and protective features that the school installed. I asm about to the point of formating both hard drives and reinstalling clean 98SE. Any better redcommendadtions?

Assuming there is nothing on the drives that you want - and this sounds unlikely, a format and clean install is the best possible option.
