I have Outlook Express 6. I cannot seem to get it to notify me when there is an incoming email. I have to open the program to check my emails. I have checked all the boxes in options under general. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

In OE go Tools > Options > General > Send/Receive Messages and set up your preferences there.

Adele2001--And/or maybe you want a little icon in the System Tray (now Notification Area) next to the clock to show you if you have unread messages?
If so right click on a blank spot in the Taskbar (bottom of your screen)|Properties|Customize. Check to see what the Behavior of "You have new Mail" is. If it is not already set to "Always Show" do so by clicking on the present setting in the Behavior column and change from the dropdown list.

Thankyou for your replies. I have set all options possible in OE for this to work Pete.

WelshJim, I have changed the behaviour and I will see what happens. I will post back if this doesn't work.

You must have OE running to get notification of emails. Unless OE is loaded there is no way that it can check if you have any mail :) Minimise it to the task bar.

The settings I posted are for OE to check every x minutes for email.

hmmmm, i don't remember having to have it minimised before. For some reason, I thought it worked in the background and when you got an email, a little icon appeared by the clock and you clicked on that to open up OE. However, I'll take what you say as true and thank you very much for your help.;)

You are correct in that OE will run in the background and show in the task bar and that an envelope icon appears by the clock when new email is received and clicking on that restores OE to the screen. To achieve this OE must be running.
