Today, my volume and wireless network icons are not showing. I re-booted, still missing? When I go to properties in taskbar, notification area, both icons are greyed out and I cannot check them. How do I get them back?

    Thanks,

    Marv

Sometimes this works and sometimes it has to be run again and again:

Click the Windows Orb (Start), type regedit, press Enter and navigate to registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify. In the right-pane there are two entries: IconStreams and PastIconsStream, right-click and delete them, then restart the computer. You may have to right-click the Taskbar > Properties > Notification Area and put a tick in any that are missing.

Create a system restore point before deleting the registry keys in case anything goes wrong.

    BurrWalnut,

Thanks, I clicked the quick launch at the spot where the missing icons were and clicked properties, and the boxes were not greyed out this time, so, I checked them and clicked apply and they returned for now. Why does this happen? I wonder what causes them to disappear and then to again re-appear? I will save your advice and try it when the problem occurs again. Hope it does not happen again.
