    [Resolved] Nothing will open....trojan horse?

    Hello...
    I have been having problems with my computer for about a week now. I keep getting pop-ups with ads for spyware removing programs available for purchase. When these pop-ups are closed, about 10 minutes later they pop right back up.
    I have AVG and I tried to run a system scan when it all started, however, the program ended up freezing and quitting. I am up to date on all my virus definitions so I'm not exactly sure what happened. I have tried to start the virus scan over and the program will not even load.
    As a matter of fact, no program will load. When I try to open programs like AVG, RealPlayer or even the calculator, I get a popup that says it has moved or could not be found. I even downloaded HiJackThis and it will not open at all. Plus, the only internet browser that will open is Internet Explorer 7, Firefox will not open and, when I downloaded it a 2nd time and tried to install it, I got the same popup stating it was not found or could not open.
    In an attempt to remove the virus, my friend instructed me to delete Internet Explorer. NOW, when I start my computer it just acts like it's loading and nothing comes up, almost like it's frozen. The only way to get it to load is to press F8 while it loads and start it with the last settings that worked.

    Please help! I am having such a frustrating time getting this to work!

    Please download and run the below tool named Rkill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) which may help allow other programs to run.

    There are 4 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.

    Vista and Win7 users need to right click Rkill and choose Run as Administrator

    You only need to get one of these to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.

    * Rkill.com
    * Rkill.scr
    * Rkill.pif
    * Rkill.exe

    * Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.
    * If using Vista or Windows 7 right-click on it and choose Run As Administrator.
    * A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
    * If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.
    * If it does not work, repeat the process and attempt to use one of the remaining links until the tool runs.
    * Do not reboot until instructed.
    * If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.

    Once you've gotten one of them to run then try to immediately run the following.

    Now download and Run exeHelper.

    * Please download exeHelper from Raktor to your desktop.
    * Double-click on exeHelper.com to run the fix.
    * A black window should pop up, press any key to close once the fix is completed.
    * A log file named log.txt will be created in the directory where you ran exeHelper.com
    * Attach the log.txt file to your next message.[/LIST]

    Note: If the window shows a message that says "Error deleting file ", please re-run the program before posting a log - and post the two logs together (they will both be in the one file).

    Please download ComboFix from [color= "Red"]Here[/color] or [color= "#FF0000"]Here[/color] to your Desktop.

    **Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
    1. Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
    2. Close any open browsers.
    3. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
      • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results ".
      • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
      NOTE1. If Combofix asks you to install Recovery Console, please allow it.
      NOTE 2. If Combofix asks you to update the program, always do so.
      • Close any open browsers.
      • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
      • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
      • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.
    4. Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
    5. When finished, it will produce a report for you.
    6. Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
    **Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

    Make sure, you re-enable your security programs, when you're done with Combofix.

    DO NOT make any other changes to your computer (like installing programs, using other cleaning tools, etc.), until it's officially declared clean!!!

    Download HijackThis:
    http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/hijackthis/download
    by clicking on Installer under Version 2.0.2
    [DO NOT download version 2.0.3 (beta)]
    Install, and run it.
    Post HijackTHis log.
    Do NOT attempt to fix anything!

    NOTE. If you're using Vista, or 7, right click on HijackThis, and click Run as Administrator

    Attached is exehelperlog.txt and rkill.log

    However, HiJackThis and ComboFix.exe would not run. I got the following message when I tried to start ComboFix (I also got the same message when I tried to run HiJackThis):

    ******
    Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the applications permission to access the item.
    ******

    I cannot disable my antivirus either, as AVG is not showing as running on my computer at all anymore. I get the above message when I try to open it as well.

    ******
    Here are the attached logs for your review:

    You definitely need to change your computing habits.
    This is the most badly infected computer, I've seen lately.

    ====================================================================

    1. Please open Notepad
    • Click Start , then Run
    • Type notepad .exe in the Run Box.

    2. Now copy/paste the entire content of the codebox below into the Notepad window:

    Code:
    File::
    c:\program files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\reader_sl .exe
    c:\program files\AVG\AVG8\avgtray .exe
    c:\program files\BroadJump\Client Foundation\cfd .exe
    c:\program files\Common Files\Adobe\ARM\1.0\adobearm .exe
    c:\program files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Works Shared\wkufind .exe

    c:\windows\SMINST\recguard .exe
    c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3\hpztsb06 .exe
    c:\windows\system32\omreplc.exe
    c:\windows\system32\actbjs.exe

    3. Save the above as CFScript.txt

    4. Then drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe as depicted in the animation below. This will start ComboFix again.

    5. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), please post the following reports/logs into your next reply:
    • Combofix.txt
    • A new HijackThis log.

    On that note: I see you have P2P software ( Azures, Limewire, BitTorrent, uTorrent etc…) installed on your machine. We are not here to pass judgment on file-sharing as a concept. However, we will warn you that engaging in this activity and having this kind of software installed on your machine will always make you more susceptible to re-infections. It may be contributing to your current situation. This page will give you further information.

    Please note: Even if you are using a "safe" P2P program, it is only the program that is safe. You will be sharing files from uncertified sources, and these are often infected. The bad guys use P2P filesharing as a major conduit to spread their wares and their infections.

    References for the risk of these programs are here, and here.

    I would strongly recommend that you uninstall them, and read the links above for educational value!

    Note: Please be advised that continued use of these programs after being warned of the danger of infections from them, may result in the discontinued help of future cleaning of your system here at WindowsBBS Malware and Virus removal.

    I have uninstalled all P2P programs that I know of on my computer (Torrent and MP3 rocket). My husband is the culprit here... he is not allowed to download anything anymore. :)

    Here are the requested logs:

    Quick question: Is the free version of AVG a decent anti-virus program?

    Personally, I'm not a big fan of AVG.
    It's definitely very good program, protection-wise, but it's been having some other issues.
    If it works fine on your computer, let it be.
    You have to remember one thing. If you take a daily walk in bad neighborhood, you'll get mugged one day, no matter what.
    Thus, there is no 100% security protection, short of disconnecting your internet connection.
    The protection #1 is you.

    Now...
    Uninstall Combofix:
    Go Start > Run [Vista users, go Start> "Start search"]
    Type in:
    Combofix /Uninstall
    Note the space between the "Combofix" and the "/Uninstall "
    Click OK (Vista users - press Enter).
    Restart computer.

    ==============================================================

    1. Download Temp File Cleaner (TFC)
    Double click on TFC.exe to run the program.
    Click on Start button to begin cleaning process.
    TFC will close all running programs, and it may ask you to restart computer.

    2. Go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

    1. Disable your active antivirus program.
    2. Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
    3. It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
    4. When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
    5. Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:

    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      [*] Archives
      [*] Mail databases
    6. Click on My Computer under Scan.
    7. Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
    8. You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
    9. Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button. Then post it here.

    Post fresh HijackThis log as well.

    OK. We still have a lot of infection, some involving system files, so we have some work to do and we have to be very careful not to mess things up.

    First, I want to make sure, we're not dealing with something more serious.

    Upload following files to http://www.virustotal.com/ for security check:
    - explorer.exe located @ C:\Windows
    - userinit.exe and svchost.exe located @ C:\Windows\System32
    Post scans results.

    Please download OTM

    • Save it to your desktop.
    • Please double-click OTM to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
    • Copy the lines in the codebox below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):
