A storm went through the other day and since then I can't tie on. My modem says it's still working properly, what could be wrong?

No dial tone generally implies a fault with the line. Does the phone work?

Yes, the phone works and a different line (phone) was used as well. Also, different phone numbers were used to see if that was the problem. It's my friend's computer and he had a similar incident a couple of years ago, swapped out the modem and everthing was fine. I think it even had the same no dial tone message. This time I went to device manager and clicked on the modem and it said it was working properly. Coudd the modem still be the problem?

If the storm was an electrical storm then the modem could be toast.

Shutting the pc all the way down is the only way to reset an internal modem. Might try that.

Thanks, I assume you mean unplugging it even besides just shutting it off?

My friend had already unplugged it once when he took it to another phone line.

Yes it could - Device Manager is often not well informed :)

Have you tried querying the modem?

Control Panel > Phones and Modems > Modem tab > Properties > Diagnostics > Query Modem

No but we will try that, thanks. I'm at a library right now and may be a while getting back to you.
