I am getting warnings that I don't have enough "free" memory to run a program - followed by "delete one or more programs in order to run this program." When I exit one or more icons in Systray, I get to run the program. I only have 4 programs in Systray. System Performance is at 62%. Does anyone have a set of processes to follow in order to overcome the 98SE memory limitations and raise System Performance? Would be of great help.

Win98 uses a single 64KB page of memory each for System Resources and Graphic Device Interface (GDI) resources.
    http://aumha.org/win4/a/resource.php
Basically, there is no way to increase this in win98/me you are limited to no more usage than it takes to fill these pages.
Restarting the computer will return resources to their base level; and controlling what loads at startup is the only way to decrease resource usage.
Codestuf starter startup manager and process viewer
Is a startup manager which I recommend for controlling unnecessary programs from loading; although I always recommend that you use the programs own options and preferences to prevent it from running at startup when this is an option.

You receive a "There is not enough free memory to run this program" error message
Explains the other probable item you are talking about.
You may need either more RAM or may need to increase your virtual memory.
Note that if you have to much RAM (over 512MB in win98) or have to little free space on your hard drive (often less than 20% free space) you may get this same error.
