I have just bought a Dell 521E system and after alot of hassel managed to install my broadband modem (Thomson 330 USB) the driver had to be install with device manager and updating manually although it was still the same driver.
My ISP is Tiscali, the problem is that every time I install there is no connection installed in the internet connection box. Even when I try to connect manually the system is trying to connect through the network adapter instead of the USB Modem and I cannot seem to find how to change this.
    Please help:confused:

First, I'd disable the onboard network adaptor - this should force the OS to seek (and find) the USB device to connect with.

Next, I'd disable IPv6 and try disabling the DHCP Broadcast flag as they have been known to cause some connection problems with some ISP's. Here's an article on the DHCP Broadcast flag: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/928233

Hi, I have disabled the Network adaptor and ipv6 before and after installing the speed-touch software but it still looks for the adaptor.
If you disable the adaptor the two green lights on the modem stay on but the green squares on the screen go purple or shaded. Even with everything disable before installation of the software, during installation it wants to install a driver for network support. When I first started an install it didn't do this, but it does all the time now.

IMO this is likely a problem with the software for the USB modem. I'd suggest checking the website of the manufacturer of the USB modem for possible solutions.
