My own memory (brain) isn't really reliable, and I think I knew the answer to this question a long time ago but it is gone now.

I have 6 gigs of ram physically, but everything on the PC shows that I have 3.00 GB of RAM. (system properties, About Windows (says 3,145,132 KB), and the Performance tab of the task manager). Why is this?

This is a box that I built a number of years ago and over time have upgraded things. I have 2x 2 GB and 2x 1GB sticks of RAM, all the same speed just difference capacity (and even the same manufacturer).

Obviously I am running XP SP3.

    Thanks for your time.

32 bit XP doesn't "see" any more memory than that.

Many thanks for the reminder. I thought it was something like that but alas, the cobwebs where way too thick for me to remember. Sadly there isn't a way to upgrade my brain.
