Without any warning LibreOffice appears to have disappeared from computer installed programs. Each attempt to access LibreOffice, a caption shows:
Warning 1609. Could not create shortcut LibreOffice 6.0 link. Verify that destination folder exists and that you can access it. Your system has not been modified. To complete installation, run setup again.
Several attempts has prove negative, each displaying above error 1609. LibreOffice is not appearing as installed, and not able to reinstall, destination folder not found. Can anyone assist me. Thank you.

Try uninstalling, then install a fresh copy.

Unfortunately that is the problem, it appears that LibreOffice is not installed making it impossible to uninstall, though the Registry shows it is. Secondly, trying to install LibreOffice software, results with caption written in my last post.

This is a Windows Installer error. But it should be Warning 1909.
Does the error message give the path to the folder?
    If not, it's probably C:/Users/All Users/Microsoft/Windows/Start Menu/Programs/<FOLDER NAME>
<FOLDER NAME> is probably set to Read Only or does not exist, or ownership is incorrect. Try creating the folder if it does not exist.
Right click > select Properties > Security tab > set permissions so System and Adminintrators (not Administrator) have full control.

    The path could also be:
    C:/Users/<YOUR USERNAME>/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/Windows/Start Menu/Programs/
Create the folder there if it doesn't exist. Set permissions so System and You have full control.

    Could also be C:/Windows/ProgramData/<FOLDER>
The folder there probably does exist but is set to Read Only (checkmarked rather than a small squared dot). If so, re-run the installer and when get the error message, go to that folder, rt click, select Properties, and uncheck the Read Only checkmark, click Apply, continue installation.

Thanks for your response, appreciated. Do you mean enter details in PowerShell(Admin)? as I am unable to locate Properties>Security tab or others. I have to admit this procedure is not familiar to me. Thank you.

I tried to download another title Appache_Office and it too refuses to install with "error opening file for writing". What is making all software in this category failure to install?

Checking Windows 10 Regedit, no trace found or reference to LibreOffice.

Hi Bobby, do you have Libre showing in Programs and Features?
If you have Libre Office showing in Programs and Features - RIGHT click on it - Uninstall, Change, Repair, should show on small Menu.
    Try activating Repair from there.
(Programs and Features are in the Control Panel.)
Bobby did you read the info about conservative user of LibreOffice?
I think you should have installed version 5.4.6.2
Version 6.0 is for high end users.

I have just downloaded the version 5.4.6.2 and ran into the same problem you have.
I unchecked the box where it was to install on start index - and it installed without problem.

At present there is no reference of LibreOffice any version in computer, other than external HDs . What seems to have caused this problem is due to LibreOffice displayed caption of an update 6.0.1. is ready for installation, as usual installed this version and voila, complete chaos, complete wipe out. Checked Registry, this shows no trace exists, a refusal to install any version of LibreOffice. Meantime, not able to open saved files and worse not able to add each day weather conditions kept for the past ten years. LibreOffice saves files with prefix .odt. Another fine mess.

You need to read the Download/Upgrade info more deeply. There was no reason to go for Version 6.0 of LibreOffice as it appeared to be for high end users when I read the info.
When newer versions are offered - it uninstalls the older version and creates a Temp file to retain your previous work. It sounds like you still have that.
Why not try to download the earlier version you had installed?

The reason the install fails (and uninstall) is becauseof the first response I made above:

    C:/Users/All Users/Microsoft/Windows/Start Menu/Programs/<FOLDER NAME>
<FOLDER NAME> is probably set to Read Only or does not exist, or ownership is incorrect. Try creating the folder if it does not exist.
Right click > select Properties > Security tab > set permissions so System and Adminintrators (not Administrator) have full control.

I just can't believe it. Further checking of the Registry referred that no reference to LibreOffice was to be found. As a final but desperate effort, again tried installing LibreOffice 6.0.1. and this proved a successful install - LibreOffice was again working. Is there a possibility that a corrupt version was originally downloaded, but rectified by LO writers. One way or the other, piece of mind now restored. All future updates will await, making sure it is safe to do so. Thank you all for the response shown, most appreciated, Bobby.

    Well done!
FYI, I am still using version 5.4. It does all I need it to do, thus I don't update it.

Yes I agree, that is what I should have done, saving the unnecessary hassle. Bobby.
