I know it is often subjective & everyone's experience is different with computers & various applications (often anyway) but I have switched from Norton to McAfee anti-virus. This was predominantly because of a policy change by my provider (BT Yahoo!) so I just went along with it. Many people tell me that McAfee is lighter & better than Norton (it certainly loads faster in the systems tray) & my computer should run faster.

Does anyone have any views on Norton Vs McAfee (without telling me to uninstall it & go with AVG or Avast)?

    Just thought I'd ask...;)

My experience has been if either Norton or McAfee is installed on a system with enough power to handle it and it is kept updated, it works just fine. It has also been my experience that if the user doesn't like something about either one, it will never work to suit them. ;)

It helps to keep in mind that there is always some lag time between discovery of a new threat in the wild and the "fix" for it available for download. It takes time to analyze new threats, write the fix and get it into the daily update offering. That lag (usually a matter of days but sometimes more) means no antivirus/antispyware program is going to be 100% effective on 100% of the threats 100% of the time.

OK thanks. I know AV (or anti-malware) is only as good as its updates, I just wondered about the differences between the two applications. It could be my imagination but my computer (Belnea o.Book 3/Vista HP) seems to be running faster.
