I'm hoping someone else has seen this and can help me.

    Configuration:
Win XP all updates up to date.
    1.2G Athlon, ASUS mobo, 512 M PC2100, 80G HD,
    DSL, IE 6.0, ZoneAlarm Free

I just installed Norton SystemWorks 2004 and system slowed to a crawl. Loading web pages seem to be the worst. When I look at the performance monitor, it's pegged at or near 100% until the page loads, which could easily be a minute or two for a page that normally loads in 3-4 seconds.

If I disable Auto-Protect from the toolbar, the performance goes back to normal. (Actually I think the web performance increased dramatically with the install but norton needs to be disabled). But disabling it defeats all it's benefits.

Any ideas how to get the performance back up there with Norton Auto-Protect enabled?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks Lonny,
Just yesterday, Symantec posted a live update to address this issue. Which I discovered through link you included. And things do seem to be a bit better now. I'll run with this for a while and see what happens. And post the results.

Well, I guess I spoke too soon. The NSW Live update doesn't seem to have done any good. I still need to disable auto-protect to get any reasonable performance.

Seems to be better today. Maybe it needed a few reboots to kick into gear. I'll post any changes.
