    Hi All,

I just got a super deal on Norton AV 2003 ($16 for a yr), but it came as "SystemWorks" with a bunch of other stuff, so I did a full install to check it all out. Now there's about a dozen Norton things starting up and/or accessing the internet at will. As I really only wanted the AV, can I safely disable:

    CCAPP.EXE
    CCEVTMGR.EXE
    NOPDB.EXE
    GhostStartService.exe

And these in the Task Scheduler:

    Symantec NetDetect
    Norton SystemWorks One Button Checkup

    TIA!

Uninstall the whole mess, then reinstall, and select "Custom ", install only the AV.

    Hi Russ!

From within NSW, in options, You can choose what to have at startup and what not to have. I have chosen to have NAV only and the rest run at my descretion.

I have disabled all my scheduled tasks but one, not only Norton but all tasks. I´m not on a schedule to use my computer and if it isn´t turned on the scheduled task will be missed.

The one scheduled task I´ve kept is Symantec NetDetect which is set at 5 minutes interval. This task wakes Norton up when you connect to the internet to get updates for your system.

And opposed to what reboot might want to indicate, NSW is not all ****. Speed Disk is actually rather good, especially if it´s compared to the inherent XP-defragmenter-joke.

    Hey Christer

If you are having good luck with NSW then more power to ya.

:) Send me an address and I will mail you my CD :)

:( Thats how much I like it. :D

But then on the other hand NSW is no different than anything else. You like it and seem to have good luck with it.

I do not and did not.

Well, this might be a situation where a few "loud" people have had bad experience with an application but the silent majority is satisfied.
At one point in time I simply decided to convey my positive experience as a balance ...... and become a "loud" person with good experience.

Please, don´t misunderstand "loud" ...... ...... You both know what I mean!

Holy smokes! I sure didn't mean to start a war! <LOL> I'll prolly undo everything except the AV soon, but will keep it all for awhile to "see" how (good?) it is.
