    Hi
I have Norton Systemworks 2001 Professional which appeared to work OK. I now cannot get it to run. You click on the program and it just does nothing. I have checked for Klem as my Email is also acting up, it tried to send 114 messages but failed?? The program did not find Klem.
My 13 year old son appears not to know how this has happened. Any ideas.

It rather sounds as though you've been hit by something nasty which has left poor old NAV rather knackered. Run on online virus scan or download a copy of F-Prot and scan in DOS. If your system is given a clean bill of health, follow the steps described here to restore NAV.

Your 13 year old may not know how this happned.

It may be due to an improperly setup AV program.

It may not have been set to check E-Mail as is is coming in.

After mail is downloaded it may be already too late. There are some that are self activating. And the first thing that some of those do is to deactivate the AV and/or Firewall.

The way Viruses are set up today it almost a neccessity to run AV checking FULL TIME. And especially for it to check e-mail as it is being downloaded.

It reads as if one of those has invaded your system. And * SOME * of those may need a complete reformat and start over to totaly get rid of.

Also I understand that even the Preview Pane open in OE will activate some Viruses.

Or, are you one of the many users that shut the AV software down and forget to turn it back on when going on line ?

Also a Program called MailWasher helps out here too. It checks the mail ON THE SERVER. And if a Virus if suspected the mail can be deleted right off of the SERVER and it never reaches your machine.

And also as Brett suggested, keep a link to an on-line checker in your Favorites.

Aslo, if you are running Windows ME, disable System Restore so that it purges all of the Restore files. Then do the on-line check. I suggest this cause if the System made a restore point while the Virus was present it WILL BE in the Restore files.
