i'm having trials and tribulations since last night with norton 2003, the firewall said the subscription had ran out and i purchased a new £11.75 1 year subscription and i can't get it to work.

this morning the subscription is back to what i thought it was which is sept this year. dates of 1984 are showing for the last live update and i keep getting a pop up saying my computer is at risk as my firewall is off and my ant virus definitions are out of date.

i ran a live update yesterday at 6pm with no problem, i turned my comp off for a few hours and on return i was getting these messages. my incredimail is no longer working, my opera gets a corrupt message, my mailwasher blacklist and friends list keeps disappearing and back to the live update thing. i searched the forums for a solution, i also get sometime a LU 1803 error. i saw and followed XP instructions at http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...ws 2000/Me/98/XP&src=sg&pcode=nav&svy=&csm=no where i deleted hidden folders pertaining to live update and switched on interactive mode.

i am getting LU1847: live update could not determine if there is an update list for this product has been corrupted.

now i'm reading between the lines and windows xp sp2 is causing conflicts but why all of a sudden when sp2 has been on my system since it came out. i also forked out £60 on the 2005 versions of AV and Firewall as that was on the pipeline anyway, just bad timing at the moment.

am i even safe to be surfing the net while i am getting this live update error? i hope this all makes sense, frankly it is baffling me and has me up the wall. i was near reformatting my computer but because i'm xp sp2 and the xp disc is an older version, it wouldn't let me. could the collapse of other progrsms all be linked to the live update thing. is there any way out, i'm sinking.

    any help appreciated thanks.

Forum is fine as SP2 is involved - a few folk on the Board are very familar with Norton and hopefully will drop by soon.

Just a suggestion but drop Norton and download the free version of AVG. I have used it for awhile now and it seems to work well.

    Hello Tenchy,

See if this will work for you - give it a shot http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=35718&highlight=Symantec

i was near reformatting my computer but because i'm xp sp2 and the xp disc is an older version, it wouldn't let me.

Not clear on what you mean, my XP dates from Feb 02. Reformatting means installing XP on a wiped drive - SP2 is installed on top of that.

    Regards - Charles

i was very near reformatting aswell charles, i downloaded the updater thanks.

as for AVG i tried on 2 occasions a while back and it found a virus on both occasions but would not remove it unless i subscribed or something to AVG full version.

i think the main prob here was when i went to windows update, it told me my system clock was out of synch. the time was right but the date had moved to 2099 which may explain why dates were looking strange and subscriptions that still had a bit to run were classed as ended.

the problem i'm having now is updating the common clients in firewall, i did a security scan from symantec and that said i was safe but this little thing niggles me.

UPDATE: i think i solved the issue with http://computercops.biz/postt80196.html
