I just purchased Norton Ghost 9.0, Win XP Media Center edition, SP2, Dell Dimension 8400

    DVD drive NEC DVD+RW ND-3450A, 16X+_R/RW

I am unable to create my backups to the DVD. Get most of the way thru (4th DVD) then asks me to put 1st created one back in drive (get error)
ERROR = EA39070A "internal structure of PQI file invalid or unsupported ".

Went to Symantec web site and not find error under GHOST. Did find under general Symantec but makes no sense to me. No way to email Symantec with questions (terrible Support - will make me think twice before buying a product from them again  )

My DVDs are DVD+R up to 8X compatible (my drive instructions imply I can write to this speed of DVD). (I think). If DVDs are the problem what type do I buy?

Is my problem the DVDs that I have or is there something else I should look for? If I try to read the DVD with other software, I get an error for the 1st backup dvd and software tells me the 2nd backup dvd was never completely written but would try to recover some of the files if I wished.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Jorjab

I’ve not tried Ghost 9, but all accounts I’ve read say that it’s actually PowerQuest’s Drive Image that has been rebranded as Ghost. (Symantec bought out PowerQuest a while ago) The PQI extension confirms this because that stands for Power Quest Image.

I used Drive Image a lot, but only up until a couple of years ago so I’m also not up on the latest version of that. So you can ignore my advice if you want until someone with direct experience comes along.

However, in general I’d say try not to burn the images directly to CD while they are being made. If you can, write the images to a hard drive and then boot into Windows and use your normal burning app to copy them to CD. There will be an option in Ghost to split the image into files of the size you want, so that each one is a size that will fit on one CD.

Of course if you only have one hard drive and one partition then this won’t be an option for you as you can’t write an image to the partition you are imaging. (well you can nowadays with some software, but I don’t know if Ghost 9 supports this).

If you need 4 DVDs to hold your image it must mean that you have all your personal files and data stored inside the operating system. I would suggest you burn all this data normally to DVD and then delete as much of it as you can out of Windows so that the Image of your Operating System is not so large.
