I am trying to help a neighbor with her problems on computer.
She has WIN XP and a new computer this past fall.
Has high speed internet by local service provider.
Has AVG installed and says to have norton also did not see Norton on it but maybe she has. Using norton firewall.
Yesterday she came home from work turned on the computer showed she had trojan horse dialer a nd trojan horse new dot net on her computer immediately put them in the vault.
She ran her spy bot and adaware after that got rid of anything on there.
Now she cannot get into her internet at all. She called her internet provider and he told her to download another ad aware program and run it.
Still can`t get into her internet. Says firewall blocking it or something similar.
I personally think if she got rid of Norton firewall or at least turned it off for awhile she could get into the internet. She also uses windows XP firewall. But I turned that one off for now.
So what are your thoughts or do you need more information.
I think if the trojans are in the vault they are not doing any harm anymore .

Stuff moved to the vault is harmless.

Best guess I can make is that removing some trash has broken a piece of her network/internet settings. Download LSPFix, copy it to floppy, install it on her PC, run it. Internet connection will probably be restored.

If she's using NIS, it has a setting for Block Traffic which effectively severs your link to the internet.
Check to see if it got set to Block and if it did, change it back to Allow Traffic.
