I can't believe that after all these years, NDD still hasn't figured out a way around windows swap file. I have Norton's System Works 2004, which includes NDD as always. When I try to run NDD under windows, I get a message that: " "The operating system . . . currently has exclusive access. . . ", and that all I can do is have checkdisk run at startup. At least that's what I get on the symantec site.

I suppose that this should be directed to symantec tech support, but we all know what a waste of time that would be.

My question is: Have any of you found a way to get NDD to run under WinXP Pro? I've even disabled the swap file, and it still won't run...

I've used NDD for years, but this is the first time I've tried to run it under XP Pro.
Any help would be appreciated...
    thx, bob

Hi grindy and welcome to the WindowsBBS ...... :) ...... !

I'm on XP-pro and have Norton SystemWorks 2003. I'm able to run Norton Disk Doctor without any problems. I miss the summary after the check has been carried out, which was shown in the previous version (NSW2001) I had when I was on WinME.

I understand... I've had every version of windows since before 3.0, and every version of norton utilities since about that time too...
My current versions are: System Works 2004, and WinXP Pro...
I've always been able to use NDD under windows, but not now...

I came to think of a friend who had made a mistake when he partitioned his HDD. Two partitions added up to 101 % ...... ...... don't ask what or how he did it but NDD wouldn't touch the second partition.
I removed the second partition, recreated it resulting in a 100 % reading and NDD was happy.

This anecdote from real life is to demonstrate that strange things do happen!
